Ben is the a true professional that deserves more recognition. He took care of me like no other barber ever did. Beautiful decor, warm environment and above all Ben is a gentleman. Thank you Ben and see you very soon.
On Friday 27th I went to the hairdresser with my son and we did our hair at his hairdresser "Ben Secret's." What a wonderful job he did on my hair. I asked him to do highlights for my hair and with his patience he did a great job. You should follow his advice and you won't be granted. With my son's hair he also did an amazing job not too short but perfect. I will definitely come again. Thank you Ben!
Very professional and affordable place. I am very picky with who cuts my hair and how, so you can have no doubt when i say that Ben is super professional and creative. You wont regret.
I am real and already tried to work it out with them three times!! They are technically competent. But I am hurt, and angry at being spoken to like a demented old hag, complete with them using Elderspeak and Coo-ing noises and baby sounds right to my face. They also spoke about each customer having their own "craziness" after I made a technical request. They also questioned repeatedly whether any past hairdresser had ever suggested the simple request; or whether I had just made it up... all by myself.... They twice refused to help me when I asked during rinsing, plus while refusing to help me, they condescendingly three times kept telling me that I'm "not to feel worry". I never expressed any worry so once again they were belittling. I tried to gently and politely approach them by saying "I know (insert staff member's name) was trying to be nice but please ask that next time they not do these things"... The owner then directly insulted my age and gender immediately after I begged him (for the 7th time) not to say the specific Sexist/Ageist insult he used. I don't have dementia or psychosis, and no matter what they think of my age or appearance, this was cruel and unfair!! They didn't tell me my hair was cute, they coo'ed and coo'ed at me and only after I over and over asked them to stop they then said they thought the hair was cute, and went back to cooing. The owner didn't call me babynames like "honey" and "my love" after a compliment on his technical skill, he said it immediately after I politely asked him to stop talking to me that way. The insult was his direct reply to my seventh request to him to not talk to me that way! I watched as all male customers and (when I was there in the past) all younger female customers were treated with complete respect (no cooing, no Babynames, no Toddler talk). Only women my age and older were spoken to like Dementia Cases. I used to have a wonderful hairdresser there named Anita, never any conflicts or issues. Reception staff were always great too!!! Then Anita left abruptly, I don't know why. I saw a different hairdresser. His technical skills are fine, he is creative and willing to innovate, learn, and research products. When he had specifically insulted me, he did finally take it back, apologize, and say he wouldn't do it again and also blocked me from explaining my concerns to reception. While I was very hurt by being shamed in public, his actual work was fine, the price was fair, and I did give a fair tip for the work. He didn't rebook me and I didn't rebook either which is for the best. For me, being treated as an equal person, a human person of value and worth, is most important. I'm finding Anita!! Good luck to Bens and God Bless!! Baby Talk is NOT for Older Adults When she was entering her 60s, Janice F. was physically fit and had no health problems at all. Nonetheless, in her seventh decade of life, the Kansas City resident began to notice something. Strangers such as wait staff and cashiers had begun to call her “dear,” “sweetie,” and “honey.” It didn’t end with terms of endearment, either. “People younger than me started speaking to me slowly, some of them making eye contact as if I were a toddler,” she said. (Google Reviewers' Note: calling an old person "cute" or their appearance "cute" and making cooing noises is also inappropriate) There’s a term for this use of baby talk to communicate with older people, especially those with dementia: elderspeak. Most people who talk to elderly people in that manner intend to convey concern and affection and genuinely mean to be kind. But many older people, who are often already struggling with negative feelings of self-worth as they begin to lose their independence, feel degraded by elderspeak’s sweet condescension. “Elderspeak is based on negative stereotypes of older people being less competent, and using it can make them feel that way,” explains Kristine Williams, RN, Ph.D., FNP-BC, FGSA, FAAN, the E. Jean Hill Professor at the University of Kansas School of Nursing.
Ben is a great hair stylist! He is very professional and always suggests what is better for his customers. The place is very clean and modern and has good vibes. Ben uses only high quality products. I'm very happy with my highlights and haircut that I got today :) Ben Secrets Hair Studio is highly recommended !!!!
Very inclusive and accommodating. As someone with a disability (using a power wheelchair) finding accessible professional services is extremely difficult. Not only is Ben Secret staff amazing at what they do I consider them my hair family and would recommend them to everyone I know!
