On December 10 around 9AM a Voila Sobeys truck driver damaged my driveway retaining wall. The driver did this by driving in reverse to drive the other way. The Voila Sobeys driver damaged the company truck back bumper. Driving high speeds on a residential street. License plate number BC 78919. I have video and pictures for proof.

Used to be excited about this service. First of all I hate having to be home to receive groceries. They won’t just leave them on the porch. Isn’t it my fault if the groceries go bad? Second they have nothing in stock anymore. Rice crispie cereal, nope. Blue dawn dish soap, nope. Chicken, sometimes. Probiotic capsules, nope. If anything goes on sale it’s immediately out of stock. It’s gotten to the point that it’s completely not useful to me anymore. Everything is crazy expensive too….

I have been ordering from Sobey's Voila since 2020 and these are some of the things to watch out for. 1. If you have to return an item for whatever reason, you need to call customer service and provide photos to decide if it's warranted, before they will issue a refund. Metro offers a hassle-free online return with a 100% satisfaction guaranteed refund. You don't have to call in to speak to an agent, or provide photos and refund arrives within two days. 2. Sobey's Voila will automatically substitute a grocery item that you've ordered, without your say or approval, and you cannot request no substitutions like you can with Metro. The substitutions that they send are rarely comparable to what you have ordered. So if you ordered organic fruit or meat, they will sub it with a non-organic name brand product. 3. They charge for paper bags that often rip as the delivery person is passing them to you. They seem to have made them a bit thicker, but they are still not strong enough to hold up to heavy jars. Metro has strong bags and does not charge for bags. 4. They under-pack bags which results in more bags. 5. They often poorly pack the bags placing heaving items like cans or jars on top of bread or popcorn. 6. Check expiry dates on items like bread, as they can arrive with a short expiry. The quality of the food delivered is almost always fresh and to your satisfactory, and the delivery people are always courteous.

The first time we tried Voila, we learned on the day of delivery that our 4 2-litre cartons of milk were unavailable, as well as the lettuce I had selected. No substitutions were offered, despite the fact that the website clearly states we would be offered a substitution for out-of-stock items. The website listed many options for milk and lettuce, and I know other options were available, but not offered. When I complained, and after I got past the usual initial canned apologetic response, I received assurances that these errors would not happen again. Based on these assurances, I signed up for the midweek Delivery Pass for one year. But the same thing happened with our second order -- no milk, and no substitution offered! Once again, I got a canned response that did not address my specific concerns. So, I'm trying to cancel our Delivery Pass, and this will be a challenge. Read the fine print. Buyer beware1 The website is misleading. We will go back to Loblaws PC Express, which lets us choose substitutions when ordering.

Delivery truck driver just cut me off, inches from my front bumper, had to apply brakes to not hit the truck. 1:30pm, jan 9, west bound 401 (43.7156130, -79.5266293). License BE78808. He's been signaling in this lane now for 2 minutes, straying into the lane to the right every couple seconds. You can tell from the tracks he's not mid-lane change in this photo. It's snowing and the road is icy. Ur driver is putting people at risk.

I was impressed! For a modest fee, I received everything that I had ordered (with one very minor substitution), and all the produce and meat looked super fresh. Also, the delivery guy was in my neighbourhood early, and called to ask if it was okay to do an earlier delivery. I sure appreciated the call to check first. I'd use this service again. Also, really nice to be able to order some of the farm-boy products this way!

UPDATE: Not sure what happened to Voila. We were huge advocates for this grocery delivery service, recommending them to all our friends. However, our recent experience has made us question our loyalty. For some reason, our account has ceased to show any of the sale items. Even though it shows under the PROMOTION category, it still displays the regular price. Not sure if this is happening to anyone else. This started the week before Thanksgiving. Worse timing ever! We've contacted Voila on several occasions to rectify this, with promises of hearing back from management. Nothing. Crickets. One customer agent suggested we create a new account, which we did, and the promotional items did show, which means our previous account had been corrupted. However, we have subscribed to the Delivery Pass, which apparently (according to another customer agent), cannot be transferred. So she had suggested we place our orders full price on the corrupted account, and call them each time to have the prices adjusted. That defeats the whole purpose of Voila, which is the convenience factor. Plus, we used to place an order almost weekly. Makes no sense. Very disappointed Voila. We would like to add however, that the drivers were always fantastic. Our change to a poor rating does not reflect on them whatsoever. -------- Fantastic service! Kevin delivered our groceries last week and he was wonderful. He called just before arrival, wore a mask and gloves, kept his distance while he explained how Voila works since it was our first delivery. It certainly won't be our last! Sobeys has a great selection of gluten free products too. Highly recommend :)
