They made a lot of Sufganyot for Chanuka and kept making more as customers kept pouring in, so there was no shortage. They made them in various fillings, but the fillings were not labeled need to the trays so people had to keep asking. The main issue was that the Sufganiot were densed instead of being fluffy, and the fillings were not good enough. The chocolate was thick and dark and the strawberry jam was too industrial to my taste. The amount of filling between items was not consistent. They weren't bad but I expected better. The price was reasonable, but for that price I expected better.
Extremely disappointing and unprofessional behavior from the owner. I visited My Zaidie’s Bakery about 30 minutes before closing on a Friday — knowing they wouldn’t reopen until Sunday. I planned to buy a cake and politely asked for a small a discount (around $3), considering the cake would sit over the weekend. One of the staff members kindly pointed me to the owner — a bald man wearing a small yarmulke, who apparently isn’t there often. To my shock, the owner responded with hostile anger in front of other customers, shouting, “I don’t owe you anything! No discount!” not even a penny discount! His tone was aggressive, almost confrontational, as if I had done something deeply offensive by asking a simple, reasonable question. What struck me most was the lack of basic decency — especially from someone who runs what is marketed as a religious Jewish bakery. If he truly lived by the values of Torah — kindness, dignity, and fair treatment — this wouldn’t have been his reaction. Let’s be honest: he’s been running the business for over 30 years. A $3 discount means nothing in the grand scheme — except, apparently, to his ego. Based on this behavior, it’s hard to believe he truly practices what he outwardly represents. And here's the contrast: Right after this experience, I went to Olive (another kosher store), where I saw a similar cake — actually priced higher than the one at My Zaidie’s. I politely asked the sales rep if there was a discount, since it was just before Shabbat and the cake would go stale. Without even needing a manager’s approval, the staff member kindly offered a discount — and in the end, the cake cost less than it would have at My Zaidie’s. Now that’s customer service. Long story short: the difference in attitude was night and day. My Zaidie’s Bakery may have decent baked goods, but if the owner is around, be cautious. The lack of respect and professionalism I experienced was enough to lose me — and likely others — as a customer.
Let me tell you. The sourdough bread here is off the charts. I enjoy finding awesome local bakeries and this one tops the list. If you're in the area and are lucky enough to get a loaf you will not be disappointed.
I think I might have popped into My Zaidy's Bakery every day this Hanukkah. Their sufganiyot are to die for!!! I especially loved the oreo, mystery caramel popcorn and the classic strawberry jelly ones. But there are flavours for everyone; I tried most of them this year. From pina colada to tiramisu to s'mores to boston cream to key lime to banana flambé to lemon meringue to lotus to double caramel and many more. Their latkes and challah sufganiyot were a real treat too!
Be careful. This place always overcharges and double bills.. This has happened on multiple occasions to me, my wife and parents…most recently today once again for the third time in a row. Always ask for a receipt and double check it
I've bought there sufganiot a couple of times in my life. While it is not like the best ones in Israel they're pretty good. On the other hand, both times the cashier was very rude to me. The first time an ultra-orthodox man cut the whole line with the approval of the owner. The second time, I came with my wife, who is Asian, and the cashier refused to answer me when I asked about the prices and the flavours. We both suspect it was because of racism towards gentiles and secular Israeli Jews. Also, the price of 4$ per sufgania is not cheap.
We went to the medical clinic next door and wanted to get a bagel sandwich here afterwards around lunch time. They turned us away telling us they wouldn’t make any sandwiches despite having a menu facing the front door listing sandwiches, and having bagels and sandwich ingredients in plain sight. This is the second time this has happened and will assuredly be the last. After the first time, we thought they might have been out of ingredients, our mistake! I can’t say anything about the food because they wouldn’t serve us any.
