Really well-equipped library with amazing facilities. Unfortunately, many users seem to forget that it’s a shared space, often treating it like their office, taking calls, eating, and so on. It would be helpful to have some signs reminding people what a library is meant to be.
Good place to study and read. Lots of programming for the community and all ages. Try to avoid weekends unless you are high school student studying for exams. Tables are reserved for you
I sincerely hope that Brenda was just having a bad day because she was so ill-mannered, extremely rude, and had a poor attitude. I initially approached her to ask a question, however, I was taken aback by her annoyed demeanour. (rolling eyes, sighs and dismissal of my question) She did NOT want to provide assistance and thank goodness another worker came to help me. I don’t see why you would even work in a job that requires you to talk to people when you clearly don’t want to?? Everyone else was very nice and helpful though!!! ❤️
This a great gem of a library located next to city hall in Maple. However it is also one of the most poorly designed libraries I have seen. The giant window on the side of the building seems like a good idea until the sun is setting an everyone on their laptop or phone are blinded by the glare for hours. You could legitimately get sunburned sitting in that main library room. Many of the solo desks that decorate the sides of the room are literally made UNUSABLE by the giant awkward poles jutting out of the ground at odd angles. They are not support beams because they are diagonal which means they were some terrible architectural choice made by the builders. The staff are as you'd expect at a public library. Not bad. However you should be very careful about where you sit and for how long if you decide to go there to do some work or reading. Bring sunblock.
It is a very modern Library, location is nice and everything is new. However, it is very dificult to actualy study or work here, due to lack of control over the spaces. Almost no supervision of quite space at all!! Even the stuff here is not considerate, and talk out loud so the whole hall hears. It is funny because when some of the visitors ask for help and whisper, the library workers still shouting. Of course, when visitors see this behaivour from the stuff they act the same way, because it looks right. In the end its a few tables gathering and having very loud convos, making the study hall as some sort of school cafeteria. If you are not planning on consetration, but just to hang out here and do something that does not require peace, this is the perfect spot.
We recently held a kids STEM birthday party at Civic Centre library and everyone involved was fabulous! Donnalee Smith kindly corresponded with me in a timely and helpful manner. She took the time to answer all of my questions, provided pics and a tour at my convenience, took (or returned) my calls, and even went over and above to accommodate some special requests! 2 dedicated VPL staff were assigned to our party and Helen and Peter far exceeded our expectations. They were fun, friendly, and truly wanted to help make the party a success and a special memory for our son. They even helped with setup and gave their expert opinions, when asked. The kids were 'blown away' by the erupting volcano (heh), and thoroughly enjoyed just free creative time to build lego together. The other party options also sound amazing and most include a take home aspect for the kids which is extra cool! The party room is spacious, open, well lit with natural lighting from huge windows, and has adjoining doors to an outdoor terrace. The library is still pretty newly built so the room has a fresh feel with lots of tech hookups, and a kitchenette on one side. There is elevator access, since the room is on the second floor, making it accessible to various levels of mobility and also great for using a dolly or cart when lugging supplies, etc. The room did get quite hot with the sun beating in and all the people, so plan for that! All in all a great experience and I'd highly recommend! We received a TON of really good feedback on this party. Great Job VPL!
I come here with my sons at least once a week. Apart from all the wonderful comments left by others which I concurred with, what makes this place special are the staff. They are genuinely eager to help. Also, I want to thank the staff for keeping the library accessible throughout the lock-down period, it has really meant a lot for my sons; they recall looking forward to the surprise-me bags each week. Thank you to all of you for being there on the good days and the rainy days!
